12 police officers granted bail in tender corruption case

PRETORIA - The 12 police officers accused of tender corruption have been granted between R40,000 and R80,000 bail.
Accused number one, alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala, will remain behind bars.
The matter was postponed to 13 May 2026 for further investigations.
The state opposed Matlala's bail application.
He indicated that he was not going to apply at this stage, and his matter was postponed to 7 April 2026 to consult with his attorney.

Matlala, together with James Murray (service provider), Captain Brian Neville, Brigadier Rachel Matjeng, Brigadier Alpheus Thembinkosi Ngema, Brigadier Patrick Nethengwe, Tumisho Nehemiah Maleka (Procurement Officer), Major General Busisiwe Precious Temba, Brigadier Kirsty Jonker, Brigadier Petunia Reabetsoe Lenono, Brigadier Onica Ofentse Tlhoale, Colonel Nonjabulo Nomfundo Mngadi, Colonel Anton Paulsen, Colonel Natsenge Johannes Monyai, face allegations relating to a tender awarded to Medicare24 Tshwane District; an entity registered with Matlala as the sole director.
The R350-million contract, meant for SAPS health and wellness services, was allegedly steered to Matlala’s firm.
The Madlanga Commission heard evidence detailing how senior officials enabled the deal.
